I wanted to start this blog off with a bit of a back story about Cliff House and how we came to be running a B&B in the first place.
If you asked me 5 years ago whether or not Dom and I would be running a Bed and Breakfast now I probably would have looked at you slightly confused and wondering what you were going on about. The truth is, neither of us really aspired to run a B&B growing up and I don’t think either of us had ever even stayed in one!
It all started in 2015 when we had both handed in our notice for our jobs in London and were planning on moving back home to Reading. Anyone that knows me knows I’m a country bumpkin and certainly not made to live in the city. Anyway, after procrastinating and coming up with all sorts of over ambitious ideas for businesses that we could begin my lovely Step-Dad, Paul, offered us the opportunity to run his Bed and Breakfast near to home. Some would say that was a crazy idea, who in their right mind would put two 19 year olds in charge of their business? But he did and I am so thankful that he did because without it we wouldn’t be where we are today.
After an intense learning curve and a year of running the Bed and Breakfast for my Step-Dad we finally decided to take the plunge and look for our own place. That’s when we found Cliff House and we never thought we would be fortunate enough to get it but here we are. We are just about to come to the end of our first season and it’s probably been the best and busiest eight months of my life.
Although we are coming to the end of our season we are certainly not coming to the end of the mayhem. After a short break away at my Mum and Step-Dad’s new house in Competa, Spain (there will be a post on that soon) we will be straight back to Cliff House to begin our redecoration over the winter months.

So beautiful! I love your story– ready to take a risk and working it all out!! I’m wondering where you all are located along the coast… Wishing we could drop in and stay (we are about the glove in California). Fun to find your blog!

Absolutely love Poldark! Many of our guests visit thanks to the Rosamunde Pilcher books and feel like they already know the area on their first time. I hope you make it one day! 🙂 x
